My day-to-day in regard to blending, sometimes I have 10 samples, sometimes I have 30. ![]() My first was the 1884 Small Batch Whiskey. I am responsible for all the blends that Uncle Nearest Premium Whiskey puts on the market. I had no idea that this was down the road for me. And I'm just overjoyed that I'm the one that gets to continue that legacy. To pick up a legacy that lay dormant for more than 160 years, it's just unbelievable. Granted, I didn't know anything about the spirits industry, so I started reading and learning all I could from my team members, my whiskey family and others in the industry. How did you transition from a career supervising criminal and forensic analysts to blending whiskey? And, in 2013, the governor of Tennessee signed into law that any whiskey (labeled) Tennessee Whiskey has to meet all the qualifications of bourbon, plus the Lincoln County process. How to search Ohio's real-time liquor inventory What did you learn about Nearest Green that you didn’t already know?Īs far as Nearest being credited with helping to perfect the Lincoln County Process - the process of filtering whiskey through sugar maple charcoal - we just didn't know that until Fawn did the proper research. But I didn't know that (Nearest) made history of his own. I've always been proud of the fact that Nearest Green had this relationship with Jack Daniel and our families continued that relationship through the generations. It wasn't until Fawn came along and unearthed what we now know to be Nearest’s legacy, that it really resonated. And so, I just grew up not putting a whole lot of emphasis on it. My grandmother, who was Nearest Green's granddaughter, made sure that our whole family, and anyone else who would listen, (knew) that her grandfather taught Jack Daniel how to make whiskey. ![]() ![]() Oddly enough, it was just kind of commonplace. What was it like growing up in Lynchburg, knowing the story of Nearest Green? The Dispatch spoke with the 61-year-old Tennessee native about her passion for blending the brand that can barely stay on shelves in Ohio, and carrying on her ancestor's legacy.
